Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin and muesli
Many people on the telly are saying how sad it is about Amy, and how it would be good if she got sorted out. Now I’m not familiar with the works of this person, so this is not about her musical talent – but the comments seem strange. Is it being suggested that Amy becomes a veggie, stops smoking and drinking and drugs, goes to the gym twice a week, gets up at 7am and is in bed by 10pm?
Billie Holliday, Charlie Parker, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison all missed out on the muesli. Janis Joplin never sang about a really good tuna salad. And if van Gogh had received better psychiatric help, civilization would have missed out on some wonderful visions.

Walter hi,
Just came across your blog by chance when I typed in “amy winehouse janis joplin” on google. I share exactly the same perspective with you on this issue.
The idea that people are even talking about what she should do, and how ‘we’ can help her etc is absolutely shocking!
I think it says alot about the society we live in. I live in a city in Scotland where, smoking, drinking (on the street), being drunk (on a bus, train, or taxi) are all illegal and where health and safety inductions are to be found everywhere (soon they’ll want us to watch a small video before walking down a staircase, entering a bar’s toilet, or using an elevator!). With the largest proportion of CCTV cams per person in the world, and people going crazy about how much salt is on their vegg and whether the coffee is organic or not, I think society has become overprotective and frightened of everything. People will start dying of stress now!
And as opinions are like assholes (ie everyone’s got one) everyone is on TV trying to tell a certain individual what is right or wrong for her to do…
Idiots…
But do try to listen to Amy’s music if you like jazzy bluesy beat-up music as she is really damn good in her genre.
All the best
Good one Yanis
I completely agree — it’s ridiculous that so many people feel like their way of life is superior and that Amy Winehouse (or anyone else) should conform to a certain lifestyle. The problem is that these people assume that the goal of humans is merely to live for as long as possible.
Maybe it’s more like what James Dean said: “live fast, die young, and leave a good-looking corpse”
You’ve got it – except I don’t think James Dean was that articulate.
i think that ur all gay and that neone should be able to be free and do whatever they wanted to bitch.
